In the ongoing second ODI between India and Sri Lanka, despite the high-stakes game at hand – it being a virtual series decider – Indian skipper Rohit Sharma did not forget to keep things light-hearted. The match, being played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, has seen the Indian bowlers making big inroads into the home batting order, thanks to a large extent to the efforts of Washington Sundar.
Washington Sundar played an important role in bringing India back into the game after Sri Lanka’s promising 74-run partnership between Avishka Fernando, who scored 40, and Kusal Mendis, who contributed 30. Sundar bowled crucially to clean up both set batters in quick succession, driving the momentum back in favour of India.
However, Washington Sundar had a few issues with his run-up during the 33rd over, which had a comical consequence involving Rohit Sharma. Twice, just as Sundar was ready to release the ball, he had to stop halfway through his run-up, and neither time did his captain not notice.

Rohit Sharma, standing at first slip, reacted first with frustration. When Washington Sundar mislaid his run-up for the third time in the same over, Rohit Sharma, in jest, charged towards him, pretending to hit him. This jig from Sharma left many in splits and revealed how relaxed the atmosphere within the team was despite this being a competitive game.
Just @ImRo45 being his hilarious self on the field 😆

Though Washington Sundar’s bowling was of a high order, despite the run-up hiccups, it really proved critical in India’s efforts to take control of the game. That light-hearted moment he shared with Sharma showed that it was a really fine line that the Indian team drew between focus and fun time. The way the game progressed was a clear illustration of how important team spirit and leadership really are in times of high pressure.
