Ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, all captains were lined together for a joint press conference hosted by former cricketers Ravi Shastri and Eoin Morgan. After the floor was opened for the media to ask questions, one of the journalists asked about the 2019 World Cup debacle when England defeated New Zealand on boundary counts on the night of the finals to win their maiden world title in the 50-overs format.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team, dismissed the question by laughing and mentioned that he doesn’t hold the position to announce winners. Jos Buttler, who was part of the final, couldn’t understand the question of the journalist as he was spotted asking Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan team, to translate it for him as the latter was spotted laughing after hearing Rohit’s hilarious answer.

Reflecting on the same, skipper Rohit Sharma mentioned that he is quite lucky to lead the team and not thinking too much about the history and wants to stay in the present and enjoy the tournament.
“I’m quite lucky to be leading this team. Not thinking too much about it Honestly. It has happened in the last three editions of the world. All I can say is that we will give our best and enjoy the tournament that’s all I can say as it’s a long tournament and you can’t get too ahead of yourself,” Rohit Sharma mentioned.
