West Indies captain Roston Chase believes his side is heading in the right direction as they prepare for the decisive second Test against Pakistan, following a commanding 90-run victory in the series opener in Trinidad. With momentum firmly on their side, the Caribbean outfit will be aiming to complete a 2-0 series sweep when the final Test begins at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on August 2.
The West Indies have shown significant improvement in recent months, building on their successful home series against Sri Lanka, which they won 1-0. Consecutive strong performances have injected fresh confidence into the squad, and Chase is optimistic that the team can continue its upward trajectory in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
Their victory over Pakistan highlighted the growing maturity of the side. After Pakistan looked well placed in the first innings, Justin Greaves turned the match on its head with a sensational spell, claiming five wickets while bowling a remarkable sequence of maiden overs. In the second innings, pace spearhead Jayden Seales produced another outstanding performance to help seal a memorable victory for the hosts.

The triumph came just weeks after West Indies recorded an emphatic innings-and-217-run win over Sri Lanka, underlining the team’s growing confidence in red-ball cricket. Roston Chase believes those victories are proof that the team’s long-term plans are beginning to deliver results.
Speaking ahead of the second Test, the West Indies skipper stressed the importance of making home conditions count and turning the Caribbean into one of the toughest places for touring teams. “We’ve enjoyed some excellent results at home recently, and we want to keep building on that. Our goal is to make the Caribbean a very difficult place for visiting teams because we understand these conditions better than anyone else. Home advantage should count, and we want to continue using it to our benefit,” Roston Chase said.

The all-rounder also reflected on the team’s disappointing performances last year, when the West Indies managed just one win in nine Test matches. He revealed that the squad took a hard look at its shortcomings before putting together a clear roadmap for improvement.
“We had a clear plan after last year and identified where we wanted to be as a team. We’re moving in the right direction, but we know there’s another level to reach. Our focus is to stick to our processes, execute our plans, and give ourselves the best chance of winning this Test as well,” Roston Chase added.

West Indies currently occupy eighth place in the nine-team World Test Championship 2025-27 standings.
