Rupa Gurunath, the daughter of former BCCI president N Srinivasan is all set to become the president of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). With this, she is going to become the first woman president of a BCCI affiliated unit during its AGM on September 26. However, Srinivasan’s daughter will face any opposition with the last date for filing the nomination being September 24. The decision was taken during TNCA’s executive committee meeting which was held on Sunday, according to the sources.
The other candidates are R S Ramaswamy: Vice-President, K A Shankar: Joint Secretary, J Parthasarathy: Treasurer, N Venkataraman: Assistant Treasurer. With Rupa taking over the responsibility, TNCA will remain under control of the Srinivasan family only.
However, Rupa’s husband Guruanth Meiyappan, the former Team Principal of the Chennai Super Kings has been banned for a lifetime by the BCCI, as he was involved in the infamous betting scandal during the 2013 IPL and he was in fact arrested by the Mumbai Police in midst of IPL.

On the other hand, on Saturday, the former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah’s son Jaydev took over as the president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association. Jaydev retired from first-class cricket after 16 years who has captained Indian players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and Jaydev Unadkat. However, another former BCCI president Anurag Thakur’s younger brother Arun will take charge of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association from September 27.
The Supreme Court on Friday, however, allowed the TNCA to hold the elections for selecting the office-bearers. A bench comprised of Justices S A Bobde and L Nageswara Rao said that the state cricket associations can go ahead with the elections but they are not allowed to declare the results.
