Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had been unfortunate in the series-opening game, getting run out without facing a ball, seized the opportunity with both hands in Guwahati.

The right-hander steadied India’s innings after the early dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan, and played a scintillating knock that left the crowd in awe. Gaikwad took his time to settle in, scoring the first 21 runs in 21 balls. However, he then unleashed his power, reaching his century in just 52 balls. The milestone was brought up with a magnificent six-over wide long-on against off-spinner Glenn Maxwell.

Gaikwad’s innings were a masterclass in clean hitting. He smashed 13 fours and 7 sixes, with 6 big shots coming in the final three overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad sent the crowd into a frenzy in the last over, hitting a hat-trick of sixes along with two fours to propel India to a total of 222/3.
