India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav showed his confidence that star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will soon find his way back into the Indian squad, praising the youngster’s consistent performances across formats. While Gaikwad is absent from India’s T20I squad for the South Africa series, Suryakumar shared that this omission is part of the management’s selection process, hinting that Gaikwad’s return is expected to happen soon.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of India’s T20I series opener against South Africa on November 8, Suryakumar said, “Ruturaj is a fantastic player. He has been fantastic and consistent across all formats he plays…There are a lot of players who have been performing well even before him, so there is a routine or process that I think that the management has come up with, so it is important to follow that. He has been performing consistently well, so I believe his time will come soon.”

However, Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently leading the India A team in a two-match unofficial Test series against Australia A, where he is also proving his skill in the longer format as well.
However, Suryakumar has also opened up on his wish to return to Test cricket as well.
“Test comeback, when the times comes, it will happen by itself. I am playing all domestic tournaments, be it red-ball or white-ball. If it has to happen, it will happen. I have learned a lot from Rohit (Sharma) bhaji,” Suryakumar said.
