Former India wicketkeeper-batsman and national selector Saba Karim has praised Suryakumar Yadav and his stunning ability to anchor the innings while keeping the scoring rate intact. He again said that Mumbai Indians rely heavily on his batting which also helps the team to win games.
Karim further added that Suryakumar Yadav will be confident after being a part of the Indian team and Mumbai will be keen to keep him for the next few seasons of IPL as well. Notably, the swashbuckling right-handed batsman has made his debut for India earlier this year and did well also.
“Mumbai Indians are lucky to have someone like Suryakumar Yadav who can come in to bat at number 3 or 4 and can anchor the innings, while also hitting boundary shots when needed. Mumbai rely heavily on Suryakumar Yadav’s batting. His name will also come up for sure when the franchise looks for the players to retain for their upcoming seasons,” Karim told Khelneeti.
He also shared that the talented youngster Ishan Kishan can be used as a floater also.
“Ishan Kishan is not needed at the top of the order for MI. The team uses him well at number 4. I don’t think they will want to make any such changes. They have a settled batting unit and also have a lot of depth in their batting order. Ishan Kishan is a type of player who can be used as a floater. He will have a similar role with the Indian team as well,” Karim again shared.
However, the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume on September 19 with Mumbai Indians taking on the three-time IPL title winner Chennai Super Kings. Since Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have all been named in India’s T20 World Cup squad, all eyes will be on them as well.
