Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar recently visited the Colaba residence of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata to pay his last respects after Tata’s passing. Ratan Tata, one of India’s most influential business leaders, passed away at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that Tata’s last rites would be performed with full state honors, in recognition of his immense contributions to the nation.
The public has been given the opportunity to pay their respects to Tata, as his mortal remains will be displayed at the lawns of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai from 10 am to 4 pm. Preparations are in full swing at NCPA, where thousands are expected to gather to pay their final respects before the industrialist’s last rites.

Sachin Tendulkar, who had a close relationship with Ratan Tata, took to social media to express his grief and admiration.

In a heartfelt tribute on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Tendulkar wrote, “In his life, and demise, Mr Ratan Tata has moved the nation. I was fortunate to spend time with him, but millions, who have never met him, feel the same grief that I feel today. Such is his impact. From his love for animals to philanthropy, he showed that true progress can only be achieved when we care for those who don’t have the means to take care of themselves. Rest in peace, Mr Tata. Your legacy will continue to live through the institutions you built and values that you embraced.”

Virat Kohli, Indian cricket captain, also paid tribute to Ratan Tata on Instagram, reflecting the widespread respect Tata commanded across various fields. Kohli shared a touching message, writing, “Forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace Sir,” honoring Tata’s immense influence and charitable work. Kohli’s post highlighted how Tata’s principles and philanthropic efforts have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations.

Ratan Tata, born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, served as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 until his retirement in 2012. He played a pivotal role in transforming the Tata Group into a global enterprise. Even after retiring, Tata continued his philanthropic work as Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons and as the head of the Ratan Tata Trust and the Dorabji Tata Trust, two of India’s largest private-sector philanthropic trusts.
