Sachin Tendulkar Breaks Silence on Pahalgam Tragedy, Offers Heartfelt Tribute to Victims

The cricketing fraternity has united in grief and condemnation following the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, with Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar leading the chorus of voices expressing solidarity with the victims and their families. On April 22, militants opened fire on civilians in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, Anantnag district, roughly 30 miles from Srinagar.

The unprovoked attack claimed the lives of at least 16 individuals and left 17 others injured, sending shockwaves across the nation.

Reacting to the tragedy, Tendulkar took to Instagram, sharing a heartfelt message: “Shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic attacks on innocent people in Pahalgam. The affected families must be going through an unimaginable ordeal – India and the world stand united with them at this dark hour, as we mourn the loss of lives and pray for justice.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also expressed their condolences, reinforcing the sentiment of unity and national mourning across all corners of Indian cricket.

 

 

 

International voices also weighed in. Kevin Pietersen, former England cricketer and current mentor with Delhi Capitals, condemned the attack in a post that read, “I see flags flying at half mast in Delhi today and rightly so. Despicable what happened in Kashmir yesterday! My thoughts are with all those who lost their lives and their families and friends!”

As tributes pour in from players past and present, this tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges that persist in the Kashmir region. The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those killed, Rs 2 lakh for the seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries, in a bid to offer some solace amid the heartbreak.
