Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has showered praise on Shubman Gill for his composed leadership and exceptional batting form since taking over as India’s Test captain. Appointed as India’s 37th red-ball skipper on May 24, 2025, Gill began his captaincy journey against England at Leeds and has since turned heads with his maturity and consistency.
In a video shared by Star Sports on July 10, Tendulkar lauded Gill’s approach. “He’s been good—very calm and composed. His decision-making has been measured and thoughtful. What stands out is how the rest of the team has responded positively to his leadership. His batting form only adds strength to his captaincy. A captain in good touch can make sharper decisions because they’re mentally in the right space,” Tendulkar remarked.

The Master Blaster also praised Gill’s technique and ability to handle pressure. “He’s batting brilliantly. Opposition bowlers usually look to target technical flaws, but at the moment, he’s not giving them anything. What I’ve seen so far has been truly special,” he said.

Reflecting on India’s turnaround in the series after the first Test loss, Tendulkar added, “I’m really happy with how the team bounced back. The first match had a few dropped catches, and as my coach always said, ‘Catches win matches.’ We corrected that and made a strong statement in the second Test.”

Gill’s debut as captain may have begun with a five-wicket loss at Headingley despite his 147 at No. 4, but he made a stunning comeback at Edgbaston. Scoring 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second, he amassed 430 runs—leading India to a commanding 336-run win, their biggest overseas Test victory by runs.
