After giving some stellar performances in the debut Test series against West Indies, during which he marked his first innings with a dominating century, Prithvi Shaw was touted to be India’s first-choice opener in the four-match Test series against Australia. However, an ankle injury during the warm-up game ahead of the series sidelined from the series.

Although there were indications that Shaw would be fit to play in the latter half of the series, the young prodigy failed to regain full fitness and was sent home from Australia.

Soon after his return to Mumbai, rumors of indiscipline began to surface. As per the earlier reports of CricketCountry in January, there were concerns over Shaw’s focus during the time he was rehabilitating in Australia, and now a report in Mumbai Mirror has revealed that those in Shaw’s close circle, concerned over some bad habits picked up during the tour, sought out Sachin Tendulkar to have a word with the teenage batting sensation.

The Mumbai Mirror report revealed that Prithvi was given a pep talk from a senior member of the Indian team while in Australia and that recently he met with Tendulkar who spoke to him about the baggage of fame and how to handle it, apart from the responsibilities of being an Indian cricketer.

Shaw’s father, when asked about the status of his son’s injury, told the newspaper, “You should be knowing why he is not playing.”

While India won’t be playing any Tests till the end of the World Cup 2019, Shaw may be in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Describing the same to India TV, he said, “I will be fit before the Indian Premier League and I am trying hard to reach full fitness. I am working on my ankle as well as on my upper body.”

Shaw walked away with the Man-of-the-series award with scores of 134, 70 and 33* across two Tests against West Indies in late 2018.
