During the opening fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, Sheldon Jackson, the wicketkeeper for KKR, affected a brilliant stumping to send back Robin Uthappa as he was stumped off a wide. Uthappa came down the track while facing Varun Chakravarthy but failed to make a connection with the ball.

As a result, Sheldon Jackson wasted no time in no time and whipped the bails off at the speed of light, and put CSK under serious trouble as they lost three wickets in just eight overs. Just prior to the stumping, Varun missed out on Ambati Rayudu’s wicket in his previous over as the ball hit the stump but the bails didn’t fall off and as a result, Rayudu survived.

Reacting to the dismissal, legendary Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar took to his Twitter to praise the brilliant piece of work by Jackson. Calling the work “outstanding”, Tendulkar said that the stumping reminded him of the legendary MS Dhoni. He tweeted, “That was an outstanding stumping. @ShelJackson’s speed reminded me of @msdhoni. Lightning-fast!! #CSKvKKR”

Sachin’s appreciation is one of the biggest that a wicketkeeper could receive as MS Dhoni is the best wicketkeeper of all time for Team India, as well as CSK. He is known for his quick stumping in the blink of an eye.

Sheldon Jackson, 35, hasn’t made his Indian debut, but he has been playing for  Saurashtra in the domestic games and keeps the wickets for his team. His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been very impressive in the recent past. In his past 11 matches, he smashed 513 runs at a strike rate of 147.83.

Sheldon Jackson never managed to witness a proper stint in the IPL earlier. He was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad in 2013 but did not get an opportunity to play for his side. He has been with KKR for a few years but has played only five IPL matches so far in his career.
