Gujarat Titans’ rising star Sai Sudharsan has taken the IPL 2025 by storm, but the talented left-hander remains grounded amid the hype. After finishing the season with a sparkling 49-ball 80 in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians, Sudharsan emphasised that he’s not fixated on an India T20 call-up just yet. Instead, the 23-year-old is focused on refining his skills and evolving as a complete T20 batter.

Sudharsan gave GT a glimmer of hope while chasing a mammoth 229 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on May 30. His fluent knock kept Gujarat in the hunt, but once he was dismissed, their chase fizzled out as they ended with 208/6. Despite the loss, Sudharsan’s consistency and class have been the talk of the tournament.
With 759 runs from 15 innings at an average of 54.21 and a strike rate of 156.18, Sudharsan claimed the Orange Cap and became the youngest batter to cross 700 runs in a single IPL season. Yet, he’s not letting those numbers get to his head.

“Of course, playing for India is a dream. But right now, I’m focusing on improving myself,” Sai Sudharsan said in the post-match press conference. “There are specific areas of my T20 game I want to work on. The priority is to get better, and when the chance comes, I’ll be ready.”

Only four players—David Warner (848 in 2016), Jos Buttler (863 in 2022), Shubman Gill (890 in 2023), and Virat Kohli (973 in 2016)—have scored more in a single IPL season than Sudharsan.

Now, his attention shifts to the red-ball format. He has been named in India’s 18-member squad for the five-Test series in England starting June 20. In 29 first-class matches, Sudharsan has already amassed 1,957 runs at an average just shy of 40, and the upcoming tour presents a new opportunity to showcase his versatility and temperament at the international level.
