The second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi provided cricket fans with a light-hearted moment thanks to young Indian batsman Sai Sudharsan. While fielding near the boundary, Sudharsan was spotted casually eating what appeared to be a burger, and the clip quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Spectators were heard jokingly urging him, “Gujarat se nikal jao, CSK me zarurat hai,” a nod to his IPL franchise, the Chennai Super Kings. Although it remains uncertain whether it was actually a burger, the “burger break” has captured the imagination of cricket followers and added a fun dimension to the ongoing Test series.

Beyond the viral fame, Sudharsan’s performance on the field told a story of determination and resurgence. Making his Test debut in England earlier this year, the young batter had struggled in his first seven innings, scoring only 147 runs. However, the Delhi Test signalled a potential turning point.

On the opening day, Sudharsan played a gritty innings of 87 runs off 165 balls, showcasing patience and solid technique before being dismissed leg-before by West Indies vice-captain Jomel Warrican. The delivery skidded sharply, giving him minimal room to adjust, yet his innings provided stability at the top of India’s batting order and earned praise from teammates and analysts alike.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak lauded Sudharsan’s composure and improved footwork, particularly against spin bowling. Continuing his consistent form, the youngster remained unbeaten on 30 at the close of Day 4 in India’s second innings. As India chases a modest target of 121, Sudharsan looks set to finish the match on a high, combining cricketing skill with a touch of off-field humour that has endeared him to fans.
