In a thrilling start to the 56th match of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan pulled off a jaw-dropping catch that set the tone early against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6. Known more for his elegant stroke play, Sai turned heads in the field this time with an athletic low grab in the very first over, sending in-form opener Ryan Rickelton back to the pavilion for just 2.

Rickelton, who has been one of Mumbai Indians’ most consistent performers this season, had contributed significantly to their six-match winning streak. His early dismissal came as a major setback for MI, who were banking on a strong start. On just the second ball of the match, GT pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled a full delivery outside the off-stump.

Ryan Rickelton, attempting to drive it over the infield, mistimed the shot and sent the ball low towards cover. Sai Sudharsan made no mistake, diving forward and clutching the ball just inches from the turf to complete a brilliant catch.

This was Siraj’s fourth first-over wicket of the season and his ninth inside the powerplay, highlighting his importance with the new ball. For Gujarat Titans, it was the perfect beginning to a high-stakes encounter as they look to solidify their playoff hopes.

At the toss, GT skipper Shubman Gill chose to bowl first, reasoning that the pitch wouldn’t change much and backing his side’s strength in chasing. “It’s about delivering our best. We’ve made one change—Arshad comes in for Sundar. Rabada is back in the squad but needs time to get into rhythm. Kishore gives us flexibility in our bowling options,” Gill said.

Hardik Pandya, leading MI, was unfazed. “We’re fine batting first. The breeze will help the bowlers later. It’s about sticking to our plans, playing smart and disciplined cricket. We’re going with an unchanged XI,” he said.

With Sudharsan’s sharp fielding, Siraj’s fiery start, and both captains confident in their gameplans, the stage was set for yet another gripping IPL showdown.
