India registered a close win in the second game of the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies by chasing down a target of 312. While Axar Patel was the standout performer for leading India’s rearguard action and winning the match with a six, the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill also played crucial roles. Gill got India going as he opened the innings with captain Shikhar Dhawan.

While Dhawan was struggling to time the ball, and eventually fell on 13 off 31 balls, Gill scored a quickfire 43 off 49 balls. However, he fell while attempting a scoop which only went straight into the hands of the bowler himself. Shubman Gill has scored a half-century only once in the six ODIs he has played thus far and former Pakistan opener, Salman Butt has said that the youngster needs to start converting his good starts into big scores.

In the video on his Youtube channel, Salman Butt said, “Shubman Gill played well, but once again threw his wicket after being set. He’s been doing that repeatedly now. While he does play very well, I think he needs to carry on and score big because he has a lot of talent.” 

Butt praised India for the kind of bench strength they have. India is missing their major stars including captain Rohit Sharma in the ongoing series. And yet, they have won the series with a game to spare.

Talking about the same, Salman Butt said, “India have a solid bench strength. They are in a developmental phase and their pool of players is continuously increasing. We can’t see much difference in the team even when several big names are absent. This is because the management is providing consistent opportunities and the players have been responding well. The communication has become very clear.”
