Former Pakistan player Salman Butt has applauded Indian’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and also shared that as a potential future captain for India. However, Butt was impressed with Pant’s captaincy skills in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Notably, it was the first time that Pant led Delhi Capitals to the top of the points table in the absence of their regular captain Shreyas Iyer just before the league got suspended after several players and support staff got infected inside the bio-bubble.

It is also noteworthy that, Rishabh Pant has been in prolific form with the bat since the Australia tour where India registered a convincing series win. And then, he did well with both the bat and gloves in India’s series against England at home.

“I am not aware of his domestic cricket records in-depth but from what I have seen in the IPL, if they handed Rishabh Pant the captaincy of Delhi Capitals, then the cricket board (BCCI) may have some plans for the future. But Kohli is still young and he is not going anywhere for the next 8-9 years,” quoted Butt.

However, Salman Butt also applauded the captaincy of Rohit Sharma – who has captained the Mumbai Indians team to the record five titles. Rohit Sharma also has a great record for India whatever little opportunities he got so far as well. He even praised Ajinkya Rahane, who led India 2-1 in the four-match series win.

“Along with Pant, Rohit Sharma is an outstanding captain. I really like him as a captain. Strategically and tactically, he’s a very good captain. Recently, India won the Test series in Australia in which Ajinkya Rahane was handling the captaincy. He also did a very nice job in Australia. Tactically, he was spot on and his decision-making was clear,” Salman Butt concluded.
