There’s always been an air of mystery around MS Dhoni, but every now and then, someone from within the dressing room offers a glimpse into the man behind the legend. This time, it was former England wicketkeeper Sam Billings who shared an interesting off-field anecdote about the Chennai Super Kings veteran.

Billings revealed a surprisingly relaxed and social side of Dhoni during team stays. “He is a Manchester United fan. We watched every United game because you can’t leave the hotel,” Sam Billings said. “He leaves his hotel room open. He has a little shisha man who looks after the shisha.”
It’s a detail that perfectly aligns with how former Australia batter and CSK coach Michael Hussey once described Dhoni’s routine.

“His room is available, open 24 hours a day. Anyone can go up there and just sit,” शगका Hussey recalled. “Players just sit around, they start talking cricket… that is their way of socialising.”
For someone who has spent nearly two decades under the spotlight, Dhoni’s idea of unwinding remains refreshingly simple—football on screen, close teammates around, and an open-door policy that fosters camaraderie.

While these off-field moments highlight his leadership style in subtle ways, the focus now shifts back to cricket with the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni will be available throughout the campaign.
“He will play the matches, all matches,” Viswanathan stated, putting to rest any doubts about his participation. However, his exact role remains undecided. “That’s a cricketing decision… whether he plays as a batter, wicketkeeper-batter or an Impact Player,” he added.

Dhoni has already resumed training in Chennai after earlier sessions in Ranchi. At 44, speculation around his future continues to grow—but true to his nature, Dhoni remains as calm and unreadable as ever.
