The young English all-rounder Sam Curran reckons that his fearless approach helped him during his knock of 78 runs on Day 1 of the ongoing fourth Test of the five-match series in Southampton. Despite being dropped from the squad in the third Test at Trent Bridge, he bailed his team out of trouble at the Ageas Bowl as England went on to score 246 despite struggling at 86/6 at one point of time.
Talking about his Knock, the youngster said, “I just tried to play my natural game. I love batting and bowling. I’d like to be up the order a bit more at Surrey. I just look at the way Ben Stokes contributes and that’s what I want to do. That’s what all-rounders love doing: big performances when the team need you.”

Curran’s omission from Nottingham Test was perceived as harsh by the pundits as he played a crucial knock of 63 in Edgbaston when England’s second innings was wobbling at 87/7. Talking about the same, he said, “I was disappointed but at the same time took it as a positive. It’s a great squad at the minute, and everyone is fighting for their places. I wasn’t proving a point at all – I was just playing the way I do, naturally and freely. I was unlucky obviously last week to miss out. There are some great names in the team and I’m learning so much.”
Sam Curran’s knocks also testify the poor performances of the English batsmen in the series so far despite having a lead of 2-1 in the series. He has amassed as many as 205 runs in the series in just 3 innings which makes him the second-highest scorer for England after behind Jonny Bairstow (212). The young southpaw also has more than the opening pair of Alastair Cook (97) and Keaton Jennings (94) combined.
The English skipper Joe Root perhaps missed a trick by not starting with Curran in the late four-over burst with the ball too, instead, he preferred continuing with the senior pair of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad but seeing openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan survive.
Talking about the same, Sam said, “Jimmy and Stuart are class at what they do, so I think I’m going to have to wait my turn for a couple of years.”
