England has got a big blow before the T20 World Cup as their key all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the mega event in the UAE due to a lower back injury. With this, he won’t be available for the rest of the Indian Premier League as well which is currently taking place in the UAE. Notably, he is a key member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team.

In a statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that he has complained of back pain after their match against Rajasthan Royals and a scan has revealed that he has sustained an injury. However, Sam Curran will return in the next couple of days for further scans and a “full review” is expected to come later in the week as well. And, his brother Tom Curran will replace him in England’s T20 World Cup squad as well.

Notably, Tom Curran too has been a regular member of the England team over the past few years but his poor form in recent times saw him out of the squad. And, he eventually missed the preliminary 15-man squad as well. Left-arm fast bowler Reece Topley had earlier replaced him in the squad.

However, alongside Sam Curran, England won’t get the service of both Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes – the two of their crucial members who helped England won the ICC World Cup. They will begin their campaign on October 23 and they will play against Australia, South Africa and two qualifiers in the group stage as well.
