After the kid of one former Indian cricketing legend made his mark on international cricket, it is time for another to inch towards the limelight. Twelve-year-old Samit Dravid, son of former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid and currently the coach of India A and under-19 side, came out with an all-around performance to help his school team win an under-14 game in Cottonian Shield in Bengaluru.

Samit hit an unbeaten knock of 51 and took three wickets for just nine runs to see his team – Mallya Aditi International School – defeat Cambridge Public School by nine wickets. He has not made the headlines for his cricketing milestone for the first time. In January, he slammed a match-winning century in BTW Cup Under-14 tournament to show that he is also ready to make a mark of himself in international cricket like his father.

In 2015, Dravid Jr. received the ‘Best Batsman’ award in Under-12 Gopalan Cricket Challenge.

Arjun Tendulkar, 18, is currently representing India in an Under-19 team in Sri Lanka and has already opened his account in the wickets column. He is playing under the guidance of Rahul Dravid, who will also hope his own son makes it in the days to come. Arjun, a left-handed fast bowler, however, did not score a run in his first youth Test match, getting out in the eleventh ball that he faced.

The son of another former Indian cricketer – Sunil Joshi – is also making the mark in cricket. In the game in BTW Cup Under-14 tournament in which Samit slammed 150, Sunil’s son Aryan also hit 154 and together, they dominated the opposition’s bowling to take their school’s score to a mammoth 500 for 5 and then win it by 412 runs.

India has had a rich tradition of families producing cricketers of fame across generations. From the Amarnaths to the Pataudis to the Manjrekars – there have been enough instances of sons making their father’s proud in international cricket. However, there have also been instances where the fame was not equally drawn by both generations. While Rohan Gavaskar could not get near to what his father Sunil did, Yuvraj Singh had a far more in his kitty compared to his father Yograj.
