The spotlight was recently on young Samit Dravid, son of Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid, while he made his debut in the Maharaja Trophy T20 2024. How could his entry into professional cricket not spark the interest of cricket-crazy people across the country, all keen to see if the apple falls far from the tree?. August 15 was the moment many were waiting for when Samit took the field for Mysuru Warriors against Namma Shivamogga.

He did get a chance to bat at four, but could only manage seven runs and a single boundary before being dismissed. Despite the modest performance, he took to social media to express excitement and went on to make early comparisons between his legendary father Rahul Dravid. One of the fans mentioned, “Samit Dravid, Dravid’s son, first watch—not as stylish as his father…he has a big bat swing, man).”. “So excited to see how he does in the rest of the KPL.”

The match itself was a rollercoaster ride, hit by rain, which ultimately saw the Mysuru Warriors home to victory by the VJD method. The Warriors posted a competitive 159/8 thanks in part to a blistering 42 off 16 balls from Manoj Bhandage. Namma Shivamogga’s chase was then curtailed by the weather and they were 80/5 after nine overs, falling seven runs short.

During the player auction, the Mysuru Warriors picked up a very promising young all-rounder by the name of Samit for ₹50,000. His induction into the team has come as a shot in the arm as far as expectations from the franchise are concerned, with a team official saying, “It’s good to have him on our side as he has shown a lot of promise in various age-group tournaments for KSCA.”.

Even before his T20 debut, Samit Dravid was no stranger to the Karnataka cricket circuit. He had turned out for the Karnataka Under-19 team and made a large contribution to their win in the Cooch Behar Trophy this season. He was also a part of the KSCA XI playing Lancashire earlier this year, one of the fast-growing lists of his cricketing credentials.
