Sanath Jayasuriya Prefers Virat Kohli Over Babar Azam As His Favorite Cricketer

Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer, Sanath Jayasuriya weighed in on the Virat Kohli and Babar Azam debate and said that the Indian star is his and his son’s favorite cricketer. The Kohli-Babar debate has been one of the hottest topics of discussion over the past few years, and there have been divided opinions in favor of both batters.

The Pakistan skipper has been able to lead his side into the final of the ongoing Asia Cup, where they’re scheduled to take on Sri Lanka on Sunday.  However, the tournament hasn’t been a great one for Azam as he has been struggling to score runs freely in the past few matches. As for Kohli, the tournament presented an opportunity to get back to form and the Indian star grabbed it with both hands.

Apart from a rare failure against Sri Lanka in the Super Fours stage, Virat Kohli was in fine form and even scored his maiden T20I hundred against Afghanistan on Thursday.

During an interaction with Sportskeeda, Sanath Jayasuriya revealed his pick and decided to go with Kohli. The legendary Sri Lankan cricketer said that the Indian stalwart is his favorite player and his son is also a big fan of Kohli.

Despite their respective fans engaging in debate, Kohli and Azam share a lot of mutual respect for each other. The Pakistan skipper was seen offering his support for the Indian star during his tough phase and recently, Kohli also showered praise on Azam saying that he’s always keen to learn.

Virat Kohli had said, “Babar is a very nice guy. I have always had good conversations with him. Kinship, I am not sure of but there is respect, there is always respect. He was always keen to learn. He spoke to me after our game in the 2019 World Cup. I have always said he is keen to learn and there’s no surprise that he is playing like this in all formats of the game. He is obviously a very talented player.”
