Sania Mirza’s Father Reveals Shoaib Malik Divorce through ‘Khula’ Amidst His Second Marriage

On Saturday, former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik took to his social media handle to announce his marriage to actress Sana Javed, marking his second marriage. Shoaib Malik was previously married to Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza, and the couple has a son together. Following Malik’s public announcement of his second marriage in Karachi, it was revealed by Sania Mirza’s father, Imran Mirza, that the tennis star and the 41-year-old former cricketer had undergone a divorce through ‘Khula’ before Malik’s second marriage.

‘Khula’ is a form of Islamic jurisprudence that allows a woman to unilaterally initiate a divorce from her husband. Malik shared the news on his social media platform, writing, “Alhamdullilah. And We created you in pairs.”

 

Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza had tied the knot in 2010 in Mirza’s hometown of Hyderabad. However, rumors of their separation had been circulating since 2022, as the couple had not made a public appearance together for a while, and Malik recently unfollowed Mirza on Instagram.

Sana Javed, Malik’s new wife, was previously married to singer Umair Jaswal in 2020 and reportedly finalized her divorce from the singer a few months ago.

In response to the public attention surrounding the news, Sania Mirza shared a cryptic message on her social media handle, stating, “Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard! Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard! Being in debt is hard.”

She further added, “Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard! Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard! Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But we can choose our hard. Pick Wisely!”

Sania Mirza has been a prominent figure in Indian sports for nearly two decades, serving as an ambassador for the sport and women in general. Despite the challenges she may be facing personally, Mirza remains an influential figure in the realm of women’s sports in the nation.
