In a thrilling low-scoring T20 World Cup match that went right down to the wire, Team India triumphed over their arch-rivals Pakistan at Nassau County in New York. The atmosphere was electric as both teams battled fiercely, but it was India who managed to clinch a narrow victory, winning by six runs. Chasing a modest target of 120, the Pakistani side, led by Babar Azam, fell just short despite a determined effort. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award for the second time in the tournament.
Bumrah’s bowling was a masterclass in precision and control. He took three crucial wickets while conceding only 14 runs in his three overs, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure. Following the match, Bumrah reflected on his performance in an interview with his wife, anchor Sanjana Ganesan. He shared insights into the game and the conditions that the players faced.
“It was a good day. The wicket changed as the game progressed. The last time we played on this pitch, it offered more assistance, but today, the conditions were different. It was overcast in the morning, which helped the bowlers, but as the sun came out, the pitch dried up and became better for batting. This reduced the seam and swing, but we managed to adapt. We maintained constant pressure, stayed clear about our plans, and made run-scoring difficult for Pakistan,” Jasprit Bumrah explained, highlighting the challenges and strategies that contributed to their success.

Bumrah’s first significant breakthrough came when he dismissed Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam for 13 in the fifth over. Despite this early setback, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan put up a resilient fight, forming two solid partnerships with Babar and Usman Khan. Rizwan anchored one end, but Pakistan continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, making it difficult for them to build momentum.
In the 15th over, Jasprit Bumrah claimed the crucial wicket of Rizwan, which shifted the game’s momentum in India’s favor. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Bumrah said, “At that time, it was important to assess the situation and consider the options. We needed to understand what the other batsman might do and back what was working for us. Having played a few games here, I aimed to make scoring as difficult as possible, force them to hit towards the bigger side, and stay calm. The execution was good, and the ball stayed low, which worked in our favor. We were very happy to see the momentum shift to our side.”
