In a warm-up game against Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, India’s team management made a notable decision by resting opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Skipper Rohit Sharma took to the field as an opener alongside Sanju Samson, while star batter Virat Kohli was also absent from the lineup. Despite expectations that Jaiswal might get some game time in Kohli’s absence, the youngster was left out, missing an opportunity to showcase his skills.

Former cricketer Sanjay Bangar commented on this decision, suggesting that it might indicate Jaiswal’s likely exclusion from India’s playing XI during the upcoming T20 World Cup. Bangar explained that the management’s choice not to include Jaiswal in the warm-up game suggests they plan to have Virat Kohli open the innings with Rohit Sharma, leaving no spot for the young opener.

“I feel the team has decided that Yashasvi Jaiswal will probably not play the first match. If Jaiswal was in their plans, they would have played him in this match. Since they have not played him, it’s obvious Virat Kohli will open,” Sanjay Bangar stated on Star Sports.

Sanjay Bangar further elaborated on the strategic thinking behind having Rohit and Kohli as the openers. He emphasized their vast experience and ability to handle left-arm spinners, who might not pose significant challenges for them early in the innings. Bangar also expressed confidence in Kohli’s ability to perform exceptionally well, regardless of his batting position.

“They are quality players. It’s not that they can’t score runs against left-arm spinners—they have scored plenty. The way the surface played also reflects the team’s strategy. There’s no doubt that Virat’s numbers will be impressive, no matter where he bats,” Sanjay Bangar added.

Virat Kohli, who missed the warm-up game, arrived in New York on May 31. To ensure he was well-rested, the management decided not to play him in the match. However, Kohli was present at the stadium and received an enthusiastic reception from the fans. He acknowledged their support with a wave after the match, highlighting his immense popularity and the excitement surrounding his presence.
