Former Indian batsman Sanjay Bangar feels Coach Ravi Shastri has added fueled the Team India to play with fearless attitude. Shastri came into the helm after Anil Kumble resigned from this position and made a way for him.

India is currently on a tough tour of South Africa, where they will try to create history with their fearless approach on the field to win the first-ever series over there.

Bangar is in Team India’s coaching setup since 2014 and was with them during their excellent rise. Talking about Shastri’s coaching, he said “It began under Ravi’s [Shastri] leadership. His influence on the batsmen’s mindsets has been very good. He has taken the fear of failure out of everybody. Players are willing to take risks, to come out of their comfort zone. Players are also taking responsibility, which is a great thing for a team which wants to leave a legacy behind.”

He is aware of the fact that every Indian fan has high expectations from their cricket team and every individual has their own opinion on this team.

He added “In world cricket, most teams’ home records are better than their overseas records. The following Indian cricket has is enormous and so are the expectations. Every follower has an opinion. Our job is to respect those opinions and work towards achieving our own and the fans’ expectations.”

The 45-year-old has pointed out Indian cricket’s rise talking about two major events. First came in 2001, when they beat Australia in Kolkata and 1983 World Cup triumph.

Bangar quoted “Average teams are known for their occasional successes and great teams are known by their occasional failures. Till we won the 1983 World Cup, we did not have major overseas successes. The occasional successes were remembered far more than the failures. But from 2001, the win percentage overseas has improved. This team has clearly raised the benchmark, and it is natural for people to have high expectations.”

India will commence their South Africa tour with Cape Town Test on January 5.
