With the IPL 2026 auction just a day away, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has identified two overseas veterans who could attract big bids in the auction room. According to Bangar, South Africa’s David Miller and England’s Jonny Bairstow perfectly fit the current IPL demand for proven match-winners who bring experience, calmness, and clarity in high-pressure situations.

Several franchises are entering the auction with healthy purses and clearly defined requirements, and Bangar expects teams like the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings to be among the most aggressive. In his assessment, Miller stands out as a premium option, especially for sides looking to strengthen their middle-order finishing.

“David Miller will likely be among the top three most expensive players in this auction,” Sanjay Bangar said while speaking on JioHotstar. “A number of teams need a finisher of his quality. Gujarat Titans could benefit from his experience, while Kolkata Knight Riders might target him as well, particularly after Andre Russell’s retirement and with a strong purse available.”

While Miller’s IPL 2025 numbers may not jump off the page—153 runs in 11 matches at an average of 30.60—Bangar believes his true value lies beyond statistics. His vast experience, composure in crunch moments, and reputation as a big-match player make him an attractive proposition for franchises aiming to build a reliable core.

Bangar also highlighted Jonny Bairstow as another player likely to generate strong bidding interest. The former England star’s decision to focus solely on T20 cricket has significantly boosted his market value, particularly because franchises now place high importance on full-season availability.

“Jonny Bairstow offers dual value as both a wicketkeeper and a top-order batter,” Sanjay Bangar explained. “He has a proven track record, and his complete availability makes him an even stronger option. Teams like Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders could be keen. Delhi need a top-order batter after releasing Jake Fraser-McGurk, while KKR have limited options beyond Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.”

Bairstow’s brief appearance for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 as a replacement player showcased his immediate impact, despite limited chances. With roster gaps to fill and experience at a premium, both Miller and Bairstow are well-positioned to command hefty sums at the IPL 2026 auction.
