The veteran Indian oepner, Rohit Sharma on Saturday brought up his 7th Test century in the second Test against England in Chennai. This was the first time that the batsman had scored a century against England in the longest format of the game and it seemed like he was batting on a different track altogether.

At a time when the other batsman was finding it difficult to find their feet on the turning Chepauk track, Rohit was scoring at more than a run a ball. Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar took to social media to say that Rohit’s innings reminded him a lot of former India opener Virender Sehwag.

Tweeting about Rohit Sharma’s century, Sanjay Manrerkar tweeted, That Rohit 100 was so from the Sehwag school of batting! Set his own agenda irrespective of conditions & situation. #INDvsENG.”

Often when Virender Sehwag was at his ferocious beat in international cricket, he made any pitch look good for batting. That’s exactly what Rohit did on Saturday. In the first session of play, India managed to amass 106 runs with Rohit being unbeaten at 80 off just 78 balls.

Of the remaining 78 balls faced by other batsmen in the first session only 26 runs had come and three wickets had fallen. These include players like Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane who are some of the best in the game. He went on to score his century in the second session of play on Saturday in just 130 balls.
