The English cricket team has just started their almost two-month-long Caribbean tour as the first Test of the three-match Test series has started on Wednesday (23 January) at Kensington Oval (Bridgetown).

While the third Test ranked English cricket team is in a very good form at present, the young English all-rounder Sam Curran has been selected for the Bridgetown Test over the experienced pacer Stuart Broad.

However, the former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has felt unimpressed with that team selection and called a bizarre selection to choose Curran over Broad.

Manjrekar tweeted, “Curran plays ahead of Broad. England at it again – Bizarre selections.#ENGvWI”

In reply, the former English captain Michael Vaughan reminded the former Indian cricketer that this England team has dominated two recent Test series against India at home and Sri Lanka at away.

He wrote, “Sanjay … I think you are forgetting this England team that are at it again beat India 4-1 & then beat Sri Lanka 3-0 away from home last year … #”

Replying back to Vaughan, Manjrekar wrote that those were short term successes which were never the good indicator. Also, he reminded that the one of the oldest international cricket team has won just one ICC title till the date (2010 ICC World T20).

Manjrekar wrote, “Not forgetting at all. It’s despite their strange selections that they won. Short term success is never a good indicator. Just one ICC title for a team that played its first international in 1877 tells you something.”

The former Indian batsman further added that the present Sri Lankan team is the weakest side in their history.

In his next tweet, Manjrekar added, “Also SL that England faced in SL was the weakest its ever been, and India, well, 4-1 was a flattering score line for England, you know that as well as I do.  Long term sustained success is a true reflection of a great team. Let’s see what the future holds for England.”
