Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has praised India’s captain Rohit Sharma, stating that he has become almost flawless in Test cricket. With the World Test Championship final against Australia approaching, Manjrekar emphasized that Rohit’s IPL form should not be a concern. Despite a relatively quiet IPL season, where he scored 332 runs in 16 matches for Mumbai Indians, Rohit’s Test performance remains exceptional.
“Keep his IPL form aside because he looked out of form in the last IPL as well, but we saw the amazing batting he did in the first Test match against Australia. I believe, at this stage of his career, Test cricket seems to be the most exciting format for him, just like it has always been for Virat Kohli,” said Sanjay Manjrekar in an interview with Star Sports.

According to Manjrekar, Rohit has become almost faultless in Test cricket, with one minor issue being his vulnerability while playing the pull shot. In India’s 2021 tour of England, Rohit scored 368 runs in four Test matches, showcasing his batting prowess in challenging conditions.
“His batting has become almost faultless in Test cricket at the moment. There is just one problem we have seen in Test matches – he gets out while playing the pull shot at times. They have bowled him a short ball and kept a fielder there. That is an instinctive shot,” Sanjay Manjrekar added.
Manjrekar also highlighted Rohit’s unique technique, noting his low back lift and the power he generates from the follow-through. Despite this vulnerability, Rohit has a solid record against Australia, scoring 650 runs at an average of 34.21 in 11 Test matches.
“In ODI cricket, his pull shot is extremely interesting. His back lift doesn’t come from the top, so that he can play the ball down. He has a very low back lift, he just picks up the ball and the bat then goes behind his back in the follow-through to give the power,” explained Sanjay Manjrekar.
