The second string Indian team will soon take on Sri Lanka where the eyes will be on the ICC T20 World Cup. The mega event is all set to begin in October in the UAE. Previously, the event was about to take place in India. However, the sudden rise of Covid 19 cases and the postponement of IPL 2021 led BCCI to take this step as well. While many players are on the radar, former India player Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Suryakumar Yadav is the apt choice for the number 3 position.

He said: “Yes, I think he (Surya) is one of the front-runners, especially with the news coming out that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going to be India’s openers. I have rarely seen somebody bat like that in the IPL for the whole season and even more, the kind of batsmanship we have seen. And makes him an ideal number three.”

Suryakumar Yadav, who has earned his maiden call up earlier this year is ready for the new challenge as he will take on Sri Lanka alongside others this month as well. However, the second-string Indian team will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Sri Lanka where a few new faces have also been added. While Suryakumar Yadav has done a lot to reach this height, he believes he hasn’t done anything and there’s a long way to go.

“I think I have been doing the same thing that I have been doing for my franchise back in the IPL,” Suryakumar Yadav said on Tuesday. “Even in my debut series (against England), I did not do anything different. I have been enjoying that (attacking) role really well in whatever position they tell me to bat. I will stay the same. I will just go out there and express myself like I always do. I enjoy doing that.”

However, the experienced player knows that playing in Sri Lanka will be a new challenge and he will have to do well too as he wants to start every innings from the scratch as well.
