Sanju Samson might just be ready to roar back for the Rajasthan Royals, and not quietly. In a recent net session at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium ahead of their clash with Punjab Kings on Sunday, May 18, Samson lit up the practice arena with a flurry of explosive shots. A clip shared by the franchise hinted at the captain’s much-awaited return after an injury layoff, and judging by his timing and intensity, it looks like he’s been sharpening his claws for a big comeback.

Batting against both spinners and pacers, Samson was in full flow, dispatching deliveries with ease, including a towering six over mid-wicket off young seamer Ashok Sharma.

The moment drew a light-hearted exchange as Sharma, mic’d up during the session, quipped, “Kal bhi yeh chakka khaya tha maine, same ball same chakka.” The repetition of the punishment spoke volumes of Samson’s form and the ease with which he was handling the ball.

The clip sparked buzz among fans and insiders alike about Samson potentially returning to the XI for the Royals’ remaining fixtures. His absence due to an abdominal strain, sustained during the game against Delhi Capitals on April 16, left a leadership vacuum and a dent in RR’s batting stability.

Earlier in the tournament, a finger injury had already limited him to an Impact Player role, with Riyan Parag temporarily taking over captaincy duties.

The Royals, meanwhile, have stumbled in Samson’s absence. Despite a strong squad on paper, the team has lacked consistency and failed to close out games. With nine losses in twelve outings, their campaign has been defined by near misses — the agonising one-run defeat to KKR just before the league’s unexpected break being a prime example.

As Rajasthan gear up for their final matches, the possible return of Samson offers more than just runs — it brings leadership, composure, and the fighting spirit the Royals have sorely missed in crunch moments.
