Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson gave his fans a brief scare on Wednesday (April 16) after retiring hurt during the clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The incident occurred in the sixth over of the Royals’ innings when Samson was up against young leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam. The DC bowler delivered a quicker googly well outside off stump, which Samson attempted to cut, but missed.

During the shot, he appeared to strain himself. Immediately after the miscue, Samson was seen clutching his left side, wincing in discomfort. The physio rushed onto the field as the RR captain took a tablet and tried swinging his bat to assess his movement. Though he chose to carry on initially, it became evident he wasn’t at ease.

On the very next ball, after gently pushing the ball to long-off and denying a run, Samson signalled for assistance and walked off the field. The Rajasthan Royals camp will be hoping the injury isn’t serious, especially considering Samson had already missed wicketkeeping duties in the first three matches due to a previous niggle.

Before his exit, he looked in excellent form, scoring a brisk 31 off just 19 balls, including two fours and three sixes. At the time of his departure, the Rajasthan Royals were well placed at 61 without loss. However, they suffered a double blow soon after as Riyan Parag was bowled by Axar Patel for just 8.

By the tenth over, RR were 88/1 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana trying to stabilise the innings. Earlier, Delhi Capitals had posted a challenging total of 188/5, setting up an exciting contest. Samson’s injury will be a talking point in the coming days, with the Royals hoping their captain is fit and ready for the crucial upcoming fixtures.
