There is no doubt that the young Sanju Samson was one of the brightest talents to come out of the factory named the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having made his debut in the 2013 season, he made a name for himself and almost took Rajasthan Royals (RR) over the line in a riveting final in a now-defunct Champions League T20 (CLT20) versus Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI).

Since then, Samson has been a regular in the Royals’ camp. He shifted base to the Delhi-based franchise, before once again being retained by his original franchise following their end of two-year suspension due to the spot-fixing scandal. Having regained his place in the Team India limited-overs squad after long, Samson has struggled to get going in the limited opportunities in the T20Is.

While he would be eager to make the most of the opportunities after cricket resumes post the COVID-19 crisis, Samson has named the toughest bowler he has faced in the IPL so far.

During a chat with Manorama Online, he said, “Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders). Though I have played well against him in the IPL, he’s a superb bowler.”

Narine has been a revelation in the history of IPL after he was bought into the Kolkata franchise in 2012. Since then, he has 122 wickets at 6.67 and eighth in the list of most wickets in the history of the cash-rich league. The West Indian has remained a force to reckon with and helped KKR lift the IPL championship twice (in 2012 and 2014). He has also made a statement with his fearless batting approach in the powerplay overs.

Speaking of Samson, he has amassed 2209 runs at a strike rate of 130 along with two centuries and 10 half-centuries. He, like many others who were gearing up for IPL 2020, would be hoping for this year’s tournament to go ahead as soon as the situation improves from the novel coronavirus pandemic.
