On Day 4 of the Duleep Trophy 2024 Match 3 between India A and India D, the latter was struggling in their chase of a massive 488-run target. With three wickets down, Sanju Samson stepped up to inject much-needed momentum into India D’s innings. His aggressive approach was evident from the get-go as he smashed some early boundaries, rekindling hopes for his side.

Samson particularly targeted Shams Mulani and Aqib Khan, hitting them for five combined boundaries in quick succession. The Kerala-based wicketkeeper-batter showcased his flair, racing to a brisk 40 off just 45 deliveries. However, his counter-attacking stint was short-lived as Mulani, who was in fine form, eventually cleaned him up, putting an end to Samson’s onslaught. His aggressive knock briefly shifted the game’s dynamics but wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian were the driving forces behind India A’s strong defence. Their relentless bowling reduced India D to 279 for 8 within 80 overs. Mulani, who dismissed Samson, continued to trouble the opposition batters throughout the day.

Another key player for India D was Ricky Bhui. Coming in at number three, Bhui put on a masterclass of resilience and skill, scoring a commendable 113 off 195 deliveries. His innings featured 14 boundaries and three towering sixes, providing some much-needed stability to the chase.

Unfortunately, his departure, caught by Riyan Parag in the slips off Kotian’s delivery, marked a turning point for India D. Following Bhui’s exit, India D’s lower order crumbled quickly, failing to put up a substantial fight. Shreyas Iyer, batting at number five, offered some resistance with a promising 41 off 55 balls, decorated with eight boundaries. But Mulani struck again, shattering Iyer’s stumps and further diminishing India D’s chances.
