Sanju Samson delivered a spectacular performance in Durban, smashing a century that propelled India to a solid total of 202 runs in their first innings. Despite being asked to bat first on foreign soil, the Indian team didn’t hold back. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who has been advocating for an aggressive approach in T20 cricket, encouraged his players to stay bold, and Samson certainly embodied this intent.
India’s start wasn’t without its setbacks. Opener Abhishek Sharma struggled once again, departing early with only seven runs to his name. However, Samson quickly took command of the innings, forming a 66-run partnership with his captain.
While Suryakumar himself seemed a bit out of rhythm, scoring a modest 21 off 17 balls, Samson shouldered the responsibility with ease, driving India to a formidable total. His controlled aggression and precision put him firmly in charge, showcasing his growing maturity in the game. South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, acknowledged that Samson’s innings was the turning point.

Speaking after the match, he admitted that Samson’s relentless attack had shaken the Proteas’ game plan. “We aimed for a stronger start with the ball, but Sanju’s innings shifted the momentum. Once he got going, he put our bowlers under immense pressure, and we struggled to contain him. Credit to him; it was a tough innings to counter,” Aiden Markram said.
This century marked a historic moment for Sanju Samson, making him the first Indian player to hit back-to-back hundreds in T20 internationals. His remarkable effort earned him the Player of the Match award, and more importantly, it helped India secure a 61-run victory. Reflecting on his approach, Samson emphasized his commitment to playing with intent.

“We’ve been focusing on keeping the team’s needs above all, taking a few risks to push boundaries. I like to go for shots after a few deliveries. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but today I’m glad it did,” the 29-year-old shared.
With this win, Samson’s fearless approach exemplifies India’s evolving, assertive style in T20 cricket, setting a bold tone for the series ahead.
