India continued to strengthen their position in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo after posting a commanding 503/9 in the first innings. The Indian batting unit delivered a strong collective performance before the bowlers followed it up by putting the hosts under significant pressure. The Test has also produced its share of on-field verbal exchanges. After the heated moment between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando and the subsequent exchange involving Mohammed Siraj and Kamil Mishara, another incident involving Sarfaraz Khan and Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva has attracted attention on social media.

The incident occurred during Sri Lanka’s first innings, with de Silva at the crease and Sarfaraz positioned at short leg. The Indian batter appeared determined to unsettle the Sri Lankan captain through constant chatter from close range.

At one point, Mohammed Siraj was heard saying, “You are the captain, aren’t you?” as the Indians attempted to put pressure on de Silva. The tactics appeared to work as India continued to create problems for the experienced Sri Lankan batter.

Manav Suthar then came on to bowl the 35th over, and de Silva survived two close calls in the opening deliveries. The first ball took the edge and flew towards the slip cordon but fell short of the fielder. The next delivery struck the batter on the pads, giving India another opportunity. However, de Silva could not survive for long. On the fifth delivery of the over, Suthar found the breakthrough, with de Silva edging the ball for KL Rahul to complete a straightforward catch.

Sri Lanka’s top order had already struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Lahiru Udara was dismissed for one, while Kamil Mishara contributed 19 runs before returning to the pavilion. Prabath Jayasuriya managed only two runs, while Kamindu Mendis scored 32.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara provided some resistance with an impressive 80, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as Sri Lanka struggled to cope with India’s sizeable first-innings total.

India’s dominant position was built on an excellent batting effort. After winning the toss, captain Shubman Gill opted to bat first, and India made the decision count. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 45, while KL Rahul contributed 18. Devdutt Padikkal produced one of the standout performances with a superb 117. Gill also scored a half-century, making 50, while Rishabh Pant added an attacking 63.

Ravindra Jadeja contributed 43 before Dhruv Jurel capped India’s innings with an unbeaten 115. The combined efforts helped India reach 503/9, after which Gill declared the innings. With Sri Lanka losing wickets regularly, India remained firmly in control of the Colombo Test and were well placed to press for another victory in the series.
