Star Indian middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan once again reminded everyone of his batting prowess as he smashed a brilliant century for Mumbai in the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on Monday (August 18). Playing at the Gojan Cricket Ground B against TNCA XI, Sarfaraz walked in at No. 5 and produced a counter-attacking knock of 138 runs from just 114 balls, studded with 10 fours and six towering sixes, before retiring hurt.

Sarfaraz has already made headlines in international cricket with 371 runs from six Tests, including twin fifties on debut against England in Rajkot and a match-defining 150 against New Zealand in Bengaluru last November.

Despite this, he faced disappointment when the BCCI selectors overlooked him for the five-match Test series in England earlier this year, where Karun Nair got the nod at No. 6. With a staggering first-class average of 65.98, Sarfaraz has been working hard on his fitness, ensuring his batting remains sharp and consistent.

His latest century strengthens his case for a comeback, especially with India’s upcoming home assignments against the West Indies (October 2–14 in Ahmedabad and Delhi) and South Africa (Tests in Kolkata and Guwahati in November).

After the Buchi Babu tournament, Sarfaraz is set to represent West Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025, which runs from August 28 to September 11. He will be playing under the captaincy of Shardul Thakur, alongside seasoned names like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer.
For Sarfaraz, every domestic outing is an opportunity to remind the selectors of his value. If he continues this rich vein of form, a return to India’s Test squad might just be a matter of time.
