Majid Haq, the Scotland cricketer of Pakistani descent has reported positive for the novel coronavirus but he has been recovering, the 37-year-old announced the news on Friday. Haq, an off-spinner who had played 54 ODIs and 24 T20Is for Scotland from 2006 to 2015, said he was being treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the Paisley area of Glasgow as well.
“Looking forward to potentially getting back home today after testing positive with Coronavirus. Staff at the RAH in Paisley have been good to me & thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support. Insha Allah the Panther will be back to full health soon,” he tweeted.
There were 266 confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in Scotland as of Thursday morning, part of 3,269 confirmed cases around the globe of the United Kingdom. Majid Haq last represented Scotland at the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. He was Scotland’s all-time leading wicket-taker in ODI cricket with 60 wickets in his name until being surpassed by fast bowler Safyaan Sharif last year. He is still pretty much active in domestic cricket.

Coronavirus has affected not only everyone’s lives but also sporting events across the globe which included the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League where no decision took place during Monday’s teleconference by the eight IPL franchise owners as the situation has not changed much in the last few days amid the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country as well as globally.
Earlier the BCCI has postponed the start date of the tournament from March 29 to April 15 as India currently reported more than 200 positive cases and fours deaths for COVID-19 so far. While all the foreign visas have already been put on hold till April 15, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that a “truncated IPL” can take place where a minimum 17 days already lost.
