Admiring an idol is one thing, but sometimes unfortunate dismissals can lead to uncomfortable comparisons. Such was the case for Nitish Kumar Reddy on Day 1 of the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Sydney, where he was dismissed for a golden duck in a manner strikingly similar to Virat Kohli’s unfortunate dismissal at Adelaide in the previous series.

The Sydney pitch presented significant challenges for the Indian batsmen, with its pace and bounce proving difficult to navigate. As a result, India found themselves struggling, losing wickets at regular intervals.

By the time they reached lunch, the score stood at a precarious 57/3. Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, however, tried to rebuild the innings, forming a 48-run partnership that brought some relief to the struggling side.

Yet, Scott Boland, continuing his excellent form, kept striking at crucial moments. One of his key wickets was Nitish Kumar Reddy, who fell for a golden duck. It came in the 57th over when Boland, bowling over the wicket, sent down a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump.

The ball angled in before nipping away slightly, leaving Reddy in two minds. He tried to play it but hesitated, ultimately attempting to leave it at the last second. However, he failed to withdraw his bat in time, and the ball grazed the edge, landing safely in the hands of Steve Smith at second slip.

What added further intrigue to the dismissal was how eerily similar it was to Virat Kohli’s dismissal in Adelaide, where Smith had also taken a catch off a similar shot. The parallel didn’t go unnoticed, with fans and commentators on Twitter drawing comparisons between the two dismissals. The irony of the situation was palpable, as Reddy’s dismissal became a talking point, sparking debates about the similarities with Kohli’s own struggles.
