Yashasvi Jaiswal’s promising start in India’s second innings of the fifth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground came to a disappointing end as he failed to capitalize on his early momentum. The young Indian opener had set the tone for his team with a blistering display of attacking cricket, taking on Mitchell Starc from the very first over.

Jaiswal’s aggressive approach saw him hammer four boundaries off Starc’s opening over, putting immediate pressure on the Australian bowlers. His positive mindset and solid technique helped India establish a strong foundation, with the team quickly moving to a lead of over 50 runs.

It appeared as though Jaiswal was ready to convert his start into a big score, and his fluent batting suggested a long stay at the crease was on the cards. However, the Australian bowlers had other plans, and it was Scott Boland who broke the partnership.

Scott Boland, known for his accuracy and consistency, switched to round the wicket and aimed to create uncertainty in Jaiswal’s mind. After bowling two wide deliveries, Boland managed to find a seam movement and got the ball to jag back sharply from wide of the crease.

Jaiswal, who had not committed fully forward or back, could only watch as the ball narrowly missed his bat and crashed into the top of off-stump. It was a moment of indecision that ultimately cost him his wicket. Despite his early flourish, Jaiswal’s stay was cut short, leaving India with a sense of what could have been.
