On Saturday, former Pakistan all-rounder, Shahid Afridi announced that he has been tested positive for coronavirus. Afridi, who represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 398 One-day Internationals (ODIs), and 99 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), took to Twitter to announce the news, saying that he had been feeling unwell since Thursday and after getting tested for coronavirus, his results returned positive.

Tweeting about the same, Afridi wrote: “I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately, I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery”.

Last month, Shahid Afridi had stepped in to buy a bat owned by Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim after a charity auction for coronavirus victims was derailed by fake bids. The latter had used the auctioned bat to score Bangladesh’s first Test double hundred in 2013 against Sri Lanka up for the highest bidder online this week. But organizers called off the auction as fake offers sent the price soaring over USD 50,000.

Describing the same, Mushfiqur said, “Afridi contacted me personally and I sent him a link of the bid. On May 13 he sent me a letter and offered USD 20,000. He bought my bat with this money. I am really privileged.”

During the fag end of his career, Afridi becomes more of a bowling all-rounder as he finished his career with a tally of 395 wickets to his name in the 50-over format in addition to taking 48 and 98 wickets in Tests and T20Is respectively. He also led the Pakistan side in the 2011 ODI World Cup in which they were beaten in the semi-final by eventual champions India.

Afridi held the record for scoring the fastest ODI century (37 balls) for a long time before New Zealand’s Corey Anderson (36 balls) broke it in 2014. The record for the fastest ODI hundred currently stands with South Africa’s AB de Villiers who had scored a 31-ball hundred against West Indies in 2015.
