The flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has always been known as one of the most destructive batsmen to play cricket ever. In 1996, he made a mark for himself when he smashed a century in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in just 37 balls. It was a record which remained unbroken for more than 17 years and since then he has been known as ‘Boom Boom’ for his explosive style of play. However, Afridi has now revealed the person who gave him this nickname.

Shahid Afridi was having a conversation with his fans through a Q&A session on Twitter handle on Sunday. One of his fans asked him about the person who gave him the famous ‘Boom Boom’ title. The all-rounder was quick enough to reply that the former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri was the one who gave him the famous nickname.

After hanging his boots as a cricketer, Ravi Shastri took the commentator’s job and it was the same time when Afridi’s rise in the international cricket began. Shastri has always been known for coming up with some impactful phrases for cricketers that become part of the cricket vocabulary during his commentary like ‘tracer bullet’ and ‘pressure cooker situation’.

Now it turns out that he may have been behind the most famous nicknames in world cricket.
