The veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be taking part in the remaining part of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 as he has suffered a hamstring injury. The 34-year-old has been performing well for the team, but couldn’t help Bangladesh get through to the semi-finals as they suffered a class loss in the game against West Indies in Sharjah.
An injury to Shakib Al Hasan can be a great opportunity for sitting out will be a good opportunity for the Tigers to test their bench strength. The team has nothing to lose and will play for pride. It may be a disappointing tournament for his team, but Shakib has had some phenomenal outings. The star all-rounder became the highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history when he got the crucial wickets of Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando against Sri Lanka.

The 34-year-old now accounts for 40 wickets in the history of the T20 World Cup. He overcame Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi in the process who lifted the trophy with Pakistan back in 2009. Afridi, who had scalped 39 wickets, is closely followed by the likes of Lasith Malinga and Saeed Ajmal who had 38 and 36 wickets respectively.

Shakib Al Hasan also became the leading wicket-taker in T20Is as he surpassed the tally of Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga (107 wickets) when he removed Scotland’s Michael Leask for a duck. He achieved the feat when Bangladesh was up against Scotland in ICC World T20 Qualifiers in Oman.

Before the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE. The all-rounder was playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who reached the final of the tournament as well.
