According to the reports of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has received a fine of 15 percent of his match fee for shouting at the umpire on Monday during the first T20I of the series against West Indies.”
Shakib was also handed one demerit point, it was his second such penalty since the introduction of the system in September 2016, for the offense during hosts’ eight-wicket defeat. The southpaw all-rounder now has two demerit points, having been handed one for an offense during a Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in March this year.
The flamboyant all-rounder showed dissent while batting after the umpire did not call a wide in the 14th over of the Bangladesh innings. Regarding the same, ICC’s statement read: “He first shouted at the umpire and then got involved in a prolonged discussion. After the end of the match, Shakib admitted the offense and accepted the sanction.”

In the 14th over of Bangladesh’s innings, the incident took place when the all-rounder was batting and the umpire didn’t call one of the deliveries he expected to be a wide ball. Shakib was shocked by umpire’s decision and he lashed out at the umpire while standing at the non-striker’s end. He first shouted at the umpire and then got involved in a prolonged discussion.
Shakib played a brilliant knock of 61 runs off 43 balls in the game in Sylhet but could not prevent a humiliating loss for his team. West Indies bowled out Bangladesh for 129 and chased down the target with 55 balls to spare and took the 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The second and third matches will be held in Dhaka on Thursday and Saturday. Bangladesh swept West Indies 2-0 in the preceding Test series before winning the three-match one-day international series 2-1.
