The second Test, Day 3, against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, turned around for the West Indies when star fast bowler Shamar Joseph got involved in some power hitting to end with the damage of certain property. Tailender Joseph, more of a bowling specialist, launched an attack on young English fast bowler Gus Atkinson in the 107th over of the innings and tacked on some important runs for his team lower down the order.
Joseph gave a glimpse of his aggressive intentions when he pulled an early second delivery off Atkinson well high over deep mid-wicket for a towering six. He didn’t stop there; on the next short delivery, he sent the ball flying towards deep backward square leg, where it soared into the stands and crashed into the roof of one of the spectator boxes.
The impact was so powerful that tiles were dislodged and fell among the crowd below. Fortunately, Joseph’s mammoth strike did not result in any injuries. He hit five fours and two sixes from 27 balls in his quick-fire innings of 33.

Shamar Joseph’s fighting innings, with an important supporting role, included a vital tenth-wicket stand with Joshua Da Silva. The pair added 71 runs in 78 balls to frustrate the English bowlers and wring out some precious runs that boosted the West Indies’ total.

The partnership was finally broken just before lunch when Joseph chipped a delivery from Mark Wood to Gus Atkinson at mid-on. Joshua Da Silva, who was left stranded on 82 not out from 122 balls, took the long walk back to the pavilion, having narrowly missed out on a century.
The West Indies had resumed earlier in the day from 351/5, with Jason Holder and Joshua Da Silva occupying the crease. England struck early when Chris Woakes found the edge of Holder’s bat, sending a catch to Jamie Smith behind the stumps. Next man in Kevin Sinclair scored just 4 runs before being caught by Harry Brook at gully.

Woakes continued his fine spell and struck twice in successive balls, first getting Alzarri Joseph for 10 off 29 balls, following up on the very next ball with the wicket of Jayden Seales for 0 off 1. But after all this, the West Indies were able to post a total of 457 runs to ensure a narrow lead of 41 runs.
