The veteran Indian speedster, Mohammed Shami couldn’t understand how people forget match-winning performances of Jasprit Bumrah just after a few disappointing ODI matches. Bumrah went wicketless in all three of India’s defeats against New Zealand with questions being raised over his performance.

After Day 2 of the ongoing practice match in which Bumrah and Shami took 5 wickets combinedly, the latter said,  “I can understand we are discussing on a topic (after a certain length of time) not just after 2-4 games. Just because he hasn’t performed in two games, you can’t just ignore his ability to win matches. What Bumrah has achieved for India, how can you even forget that or for that matter ignore it? So if you think positively, then it’s good for the player and his confidence also.”

Shami also took a dig at the critics who often comment for the sake of doing it. He feels that people have easily forgotten that Bumrah is coming back from a stress fracture on his lower back.

The veteran pacer explained, “From outside, it is very easy to nitpick as some have a job to comment and earn money. Every sportsman can get injured and one should try and look at the positives rather than harp on negatives. People tend to think very differently and when you do not do well for a few games, their viewpoint about them changes.”

There is no denying the fact that Shami is one of the most versatile fast bowlers of modern-day cricket and now he is ready to be a mentor for the talented fast bowler like Navdeep Saini. Explaining the role of an experienced bowler, he said that experience helped a bowler not to panic easily and it can help the youngster to get matured quickly. He also said that the Indian team has no gap between juniors and seniors as they joke and laugh with them.

Showering praise for Saini, the Bengal pacer said, “He is young, he has got talent, pace, and height. But yes, someone has to guide him and take him along the way. He is bowling well but no one possesses experience straightaway. Hopefully, it will come soon and we seniors are there to help him.”

Talking about the pitch conditions, Shami said that the pitch was damper and greener on Day 1 as compared to the Day 2. But the cloud cover of the second day helped them to make use of the conditions well as the ball of seaming and swinging consistently with an ample amount of bounce.
