The ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India has exposed some of the prime weaknesses of the hosts in their own backyard. While many are lashing out at the dull batting effort which is obviously missing the services of Steve Smith and David Warner, their bowlers have also been struggling. The former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne who has been quite vocal in this series has come up with a demoralizing stat for the fans and the current players as well.
Ahead of the series, it was expected that it is going to be a battle between Australia’s bowlers and the Indian batsmen, especially Virat Kohli. With the way things are panning out at the moment, the visiting team is having the upper hand. Cheteshwar Pujara has smashed three centuries so far with the latest one hitting in Syndey on Thursday and Kohli has also been able to keep the Aussies bowlers at the bay.

Despite the fact that Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have bowled extremely well, the new-ball duo of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc has failed to make an impact. The Australian bowlers are known for their hostility along with the impeccable discipline. Hazlewood is known to bring early breakthroughs by pinning the batsmen in front of the stumps thanks to his accurate line and length bowling. But in the ongoing series against India, the hosts’ fast bowlers have bowled a massive 2592 balls and only 205 of those were going on to hit the stumps.
To make things worse, they haven’t affected even single leg-before-wicket (LBW) dismissal compared Jasprit Bumrah’s six. Overall, Australia has only one lbw against their name while India has eight after the first three Tests. Warne pointed out the same after the first day’s play of the fourth and final Test of the series in Sydney and raised serious questions on the pace battery.
Warne’s tweet read: “Not a good stat/fact for this series. Aust’s quicks have bowled 2592 balls & only 205 balls would have gone on to hit the stumps. India has 8 LBW’s (Bumrah has 6), Aust 1 (Lyon has the 1), yep that means not one LBW for Aust’s quicks. So not just the batting that’s struggling”.

Even the former captain Michael Clarke joined in the discussion and was shocked to know the same. He wrote: “That is an unbelievable stat… only one LBW in the series for the Aussies…..”.
