Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson, who was also a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in all the earlier 13 seasons, recently shared his emotion related to this league. He said that he is going to miss the action this year as the 39-year-old announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the last season.
However, he added that he is looking forward to watching the entire tournament. Apart from CSK, he had played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also. His stint with RR had helped him do well in international cricket as well. He even mentioned that he had made life-long friends with whom he had played with.
Recently, Shane Watson became nostalgic while recalling his memories and shared a few photographs of him in India, which he referred to his “second home”.

He had tasted a fair share of success in IPL. In the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008, Watson played an important role for Rajasthan Royals (RR), winning four ‘Man of the Match awards as well as the ‘Man of the Tournament’ award. After that, he was named as Matthew Hayden’s replacement in the Australia team after his stunning IPL season. He again won the Player of the Tournament award in 2013 and the very next year he was named the captain as well.
At that time, he was the highest-paid overseas player in the IPL. In 2016, RCB bought Shane Watson and he played a few matches the next season in the absence of Virat Kohli. After that, he joined CSK and his contribution was vividly remembered. During the IPL 2019 final against Mumbai Indians, he had played with a bloodied knee and needed six stitches after the match.
While the incident earned Shane Watson a lot of respect, his teammate Harbhajan Singh later revealed the story to everyone. However, IPL 2021 is all set to begin on April 9.
